A Northern Rivers Photography Day: Waterfalls, Hinterland, and Sea Light

This is my favorite route when I want variety in one day. It gives me rainforest texture in the morning, hinterland rhythm in the afternoon, and coastal atmosphere at sunset.

Morning: Nightcap and Minyon Falls

Start early while mist is still suspended in the trees. I shoot tighter frames first because humidity can soften distant contrast. Keep a microfiber cloth ready for lens moisture.

Midday: Hinterland transitions

Midday light can feel harsh, so I switch to details: bark textures, leaves against negative space, and geometric farm lines. This is when ideas for abstract work often appear.

Late afternoon: Broken Head

I arrive with enough time to walk and watch cloud movement before committing to a spot. If the horizon is busy, I lower the frame and prioritize foreground rhythm.

Sunset blue hour: Cape Byron edge light

Once the sun drops, tones cool quickly and reflections become subtle. Blue hour often gives cleaner emotional results than the final orange minutes.
